How music is beneficial to a child's development

Music is a great way to engage your child and help develop their creativity. Find out why in here.

Music is everywhere, it is in films and television shows, it is in theatre productions, it is played in supermarkets and stores, it is featured in practically every aspect of modern life.

Introducing music to children at a very young age (even whilst they’re still in a womb) has been proven to be very beneficial with their overall development. Studies have shown that children that who are exposed to music from a young age do better in school than children who are not.

Whether it’s encouraging a child’s creativity through playing an instrument, singing along to different melodies, or just listening to songs and jingles, music is hugely important.

As a newborn, a child can obviously not grip a drumstick, or play a guitar, but they can listen. So items such as musical mobiles, not only help to relax a child, but they also stimulate the child to different sounds and melodies. The same also applies to toys which a child can press a button and then hear a song, or a sound.

When a child gets a little bit older and can pick up items, a drum or a xylophone is a great way of introducing a child to creating their own sounds. A drum is great for younger children to bash and see that when they hit the drum skin, a noise happens. This teaches the child about cause and effect, and once they understand this concept a great way of introducing a child to different sounds using the same principal of hitting an object is by getting them a xylophone.

Xylophones are pretty robust, so they can take a good hammering, and they give child an opportunity to hear different sounds when different keys are stuck. They should then be able to (with help from an adult) product simple melodies, or try to replicate nursery rhymes.

Once a child has learnt to be a little more delicate with their possessions a small guitar or a keyboard is a good way to introduce or further children with music.

We stock a variety of different musical products ranging from mobiles and activity centres which play simple tunes, to drums, percussion, xylophones, castanets, whistles, guitars and more...
