Bringing Bertie to Life
Students bring Brighton toy company's mascot to life

Talented students have helped bring an online toy store’s new mascot to life.
Kavan Webb completed an HND in Multimedia at Sussex Downs College in Lewes before setting up Treasure Island Toys.
To promote the company he created Bertie the Pirate with his own website featuring games and activities aimed at children aged five to seven.
His sister Kiele wrote adventures about Bertie and Mr Webb approached his old course leaders Kate Williams and Andrew Williamson to ask their current students to animate each tale. The cartoons will be launched at the course’s end of year show on Thursday.
Mr Webb, whose Hove-based company was nominated for the 2009 Online Toy Retailer of the Year award, was delighted.
He said: "They have all got their own style."
The project gave the students the opportunity to experience working to a brief.
Mr Webb said: "I was basically their client and they had to work with what I gave them and make sure it was good quality. The standard was really high."
