Did Sky 1's 'Treasure Island' series affect our web traffic?
See the results from our little experiment inside…

A week or so before Christmas I saw a large billboard for a new TV series for Sky 1 called 'Treasure Island'. I wondered if this show sharing a similar name as ourselves would infact affect our web traffic when the show was due to air.
It is now the 4th January, and the show has aired.
In a quick summary, our Google analytics show that we had 10 unique visitors on the 1st/2nd Jan 2011 searching for the terms 'treasure island sky 1' and 'sky one treasure island'.
We didn't appear to have any traffic for just the simple term 'treasure island'.
The results are pretty inconclusive as to whether we actually had more web traffic when this tv show aired but....
We did get 10 more unique visitors over 2 days who came to our site whilst looking for the Sky 1 show, but all of them appear to have come via a search including the words 'Sky 1/Sky One', which would indicate to me that they only found our website because of my previous article mentioning the show, and not for any other reason.
You can see the analytic peak in the main image showing traffic for the term 'treasure island sky 1'.
I will keep an eye out for any more ways that we can test this theory of outside influences affecting our business, but at the minute it isn't particularly obvious if this televisual delight helped us at all.
