Treasure Island Toys environmental and ethical policy

The steps that we are taking may only be small splashes in a large pond, but lots of small splashes make a wave.

Treasure Island Toys has a strong belief that we should all do our part to help prevent damaging the environment, which is why the vast majority of our products are made out of rubberwood.

Rubberwood is the most environmentally friendly kind of wood available, as it comes from a replenishable source, and the tree from which the wood is cut has already served a previous purpose (providing rubber to make types etc...). To read more about rubberwood click here to read our article 'Why we Love Rubberwood'

All of our Pintoy, Wonderworld and a large number of the John Crane Branching Out products are made from rubberwood and are painted using non-toxic water based paints which minimises a child’s exposure to chemical s, reduces CO2 emissions and lowers other chemical waste release into the environment. Any fabrics that are used (mainly the Wonderworld Softwood range) are biodegradable and the packaging of the products themselves are in most cases made from recycled paper where at least 70% of the packaging is from recycled papers and are fairly minimal in volume.

Wonderworld Toys have a great policy whereby every tree that is felled (after it has produced latex for 25 years) they themselves plant a replacement tree, and the farmer would also replant a tree.

Their data shows that in 2008 they used 10,280 trees for toy manufacture and 920 trees for packaging which equals 11,200 trees. Wonderworld then replanted 11,200 trees, as did the farmer, so there are now 22,400 trees. The benefits of this other than obviously there are now twice as many trees are that younger trees consume more CO2 from the atmosphere than older trees which reduce both CO2 and global warming.

Besides the environmental benefits of the products that we sell, we also have our own set of policies regarding packaging and energy saving. We recycle all packaging that comes to us from our suppliers, this includes boxes, bubblewrap, card cut-offs and re-use these to package up your orders.

We only purchase bio-degradable bubble wrap, and recycled brown paper for wrapping and securing the products that we send out, and we hope that after you have received your products you recycle all packaging.

We also do everything that we can to keep energy usage to a minimum, making sure that we turn off all lights/heat sources when not necessary and recycle all scrap papers and plastics.

In terms of charitable work, we try to help the local community (Brighton and surrounding) with donations to local charities as well as supplying products to schools as rewards and prizes as a way to encourage young children to be excited about learning.

The steps that we are taking may only be small splashes in a large pond, but lots of small splashes make a wave.
