Why it is good to have green thumbed children
With summer on it's way, we look at why being in the garden is good for children.

The garden can be quite a difficult place to get children to go to these days with all the interesting technology (children’s TV, games consoles etc...) around the house, but there are so many areas of the garden that children can explore.
The garden can be a place of wonder for children of all ages with the potential vast array of different plants, trees and wildlife that can inhabit each and every garden. Numerous studies have shown that being outdoors is the healthiest environment for both children and adults, and with the summer steadily approaching there has never been a better opportunity to get the kids into gardening.
The problem with getting children into gardening and keeping them interested is that it can be quite a time consuming activity. Not in the sense that it takes a long time to dig up the soil and plant the seeds, more so the fact that it can takes weeks, even months to see the results of your hard work, which can be quite discouraging for children.
It’s also a good idea to find out what sort of plants that your child would enjoy growing. Would they like to grow flowers that are pretty and aromatic, or are they more interested in growing fruit/vegetables that they can then eat afterwards.
We have a small selection of packaged seeds that are aimed directly at children which allow them to grow some of the more exciting plants:
